Business Development: SCOTT HAUSER RESPONDING TO ANGUILLA’S GROWTH Expanding Current Services, Int |
| Publishing date: 01.08.2008 11:13 |
With 32 years residing in Anguilla, multi-faceted businessman, Scott Hauser, has been able to monitor the island’s growth and to see various suitable niches in which he can make a contribution to that development and he has succeeded very well.

The staff at the business centre and Real Estate Company

Hauser, who spent all of his adult life in Anguilla, was 22 years old when he moved here from the United States with his parents who, in the mid 1970’s, built Cinnamon Reef Hotel at Little Harbour, one of the island’s small resorts which contributed much to the embryonic tourism industry at the time. He later returned to America to further his education and was soon back in Anguilla to branch off in his own business establishments. Today, he has a group of flourishing enterprises and has 12 employees. Such is his passion for development that he is now strengthening his existing services and embarking on new and much-needed projects, such as the expansion of his real estate services which will require more staff.
“I lived here longer than I have lived anywhere else in my life,” he chuckled. “Although I have a vested interest in the economic side of Anguilla, I have a very emotional commitment to the social side of Anguilla. If I didn’t feel that way, I wouldn’t have stayed here all those years.”

The Administrative Building and Service Centre

He and his staff occupy one of Anguilla’s semi-traditional buildings in the Quarter. There, every corner is jammed with equipment and work areas, leaving practically only standing room and therefore little space for the growing number of customers accessing his various services.
His businesses include ProDigital (AXA) Ltd Authorised Xerox Distributor for Anguilla, providing sales and service, toner and paper sales; ProCourier (AXA) Ltd Authorised FedEX Service Provider for Anguilla, handing international shipments into and out of Wallblake Airport Monday thru Friday, inclusive; ProBiz (AXA) Ltd Authorised Kinko’s Service Provider for Anguilla, providing copy & printing, laminating & binding, key-cutting and now, soon to come, digital photo printing and passport photos. In addition, he operates a growing real estate business and is associated with the renowned Sotheby’s International Realty Group.
Mr. Hauser now realises he has to increase his working space to accommodate his businesses and has brought in construction workmen to sort out the problem. “I am just trying to give a little more space to the different customers that come in,” he told The Anguillian. “We operate FedEx out of here, as you know, and we also operate Xerox in addition to having a business centre where we copy and laminate for people and it can get very congested. I think it is very important, as Anguilla develops, that you keep up with the times. As the island has got busier with the growth of business, I have just become more and more aware that at my place it was not as comfortable for clients and customers as I want it to be for them. I had to find a way to create some more space and so I decided to expand at the side where I used to have my real estate offices and to open up that part to FedEx, Xerox and the Business Centre.

“It will then be less congested, easier for staff to take care of customers and enable me to have some additional services. For example, we are bringing in machinery to enable customers to come in with their memory chips from their cameras and print their own pictures and edit them as they see fit. This is a courtesy to people because there is so much that happens here, and it helps with the one-stop service concept we are offering and we will also be doing passport photos. By adding space, we have an opportunity to add services while also making it a more pleasant experience for customers by being able to get quicker service in a less congested area.”
The innovative Mr. Hauser went on: “More and more people are shipping out by FedEx as well as receiving the service, and more and more people are coming in to take advantage of the copying, printing and laminating services for documents, building plans and engineering drawings. We are also seeing an increased demand for consumables such as the Xerox machinery we sell.
“Anguilla has grown so quickly over the last three or four years, a growth that I think will become moderate to a degree going forward. There is no turning back of the clock. Anguilla is just on a growth march and to be ahead of the curve, and to make sure that customers can get the service they require in a comfortable manner, is why I decided to do the expansion right here in this location where people are already accustomed to our FedEx and Xerox services. I will soon be relocating my real estate facilities. Certainly I am not leaving the real estate world. I think it is a very important and viable part of the economy here in Anguilla.”
Mr. Hauser reflected on the early years of his business ventures. “I rented this building at least ten or twelve years ago and I have had these businesses in this location for ten years,” he recalled. “I have been doing the Xerox work since 1991/92 and with that I have been doing business centre services work. I started doing FedEx work about five years ago and it was a combination of those two that fostered the growth here. The general increase in activity in Anguilla has just made the expansion that much more necessary.”
Mr. Hauser sees himself as a concerned, viable and caring corporate citizen, providing employment in a respectable manner and in a way that people can learn and grow. Hauser, a naturalized Anguillian, sporting his familiar beret, is soon to announce the new location and scope of his real estate business.
