Anguilla Attends BVI Invitational Track Meet

A pensive hue consumed the O.A Shirley Track and Field Complex in Tortola as athletes from the Caribbean warmed up for the BVI Track and Field Invitational Classic. Many athletes sat beneath the pavilion enduring the relatively warm conditions and pondering the potential outcome of their event. Present at this meet was Anguilla’s own Denvil “Skywalker” Ruan.

The young sky walker participated in men’s long jump which featured athletes from Tortola and Santo Domingo. It seemed as if no athlete would get a good jump as each person fouled. However, as the nerves subsided several good jumps were rendered. Unfortunately, Denvil “Skywalker” Ruan was nursing a thigh injury which limited the effectiveness of his jumps.
The final standings were:

Santo Domingo 7.4m
Tortola 6.99m
Tortola 6.72m
Anguilla 6.54m

Several other worthy performances were also given at the Track Meet. Grenada placed first and second for the men’s 400m with a meet record of 46.86 (1st place). Tortola’s pride and joy, Ms. Tahesia Harrigan ,devasted the field in the marquee event the women’s 100m. The young lady clocked a time of 11.50 seconds, beating the field by at least two meters. Ms. Ashley Kelly Harrigan, a tall young sprinter who is Poland bound, strutted her stuff as she literally walked away from her competition in the girls 200m dash.
