Queen's Birthday Celebrated At Government House |

Invited guests from various parts of Anguilla, including a number of them honoured over the years for their service to the island, were in attendance at the celebration held at on the grounds of Government House on Monday, June 16, to mark the Official Birthday of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth The Second.

Among those in attendance at the sundown flag ceremony were the Commanding Officer and members of the crew of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, Wave Ruler, which was at the time visiting Anguilla.

Standing on the Terrace at Government House, with Chief Minister, the Hon. Osbourne Fleming at his side, His Excellency Governor, Andrew George, delivered a brief thank you address.

He expressed gratitude to the Police Community Band, which had provided entertainment for the guests in the lead up to the flag ceremony; the Scouts, Guides and Pathfinders for their varied assistance; and most of all, his wife and her team of helpers who were busily organising the food and drink for the enjoyment of the guests.

“It is a very great pleasure to have you all here with us to celebrate the birthday of Her Majesty once more,” the Governor stated. “I would ask you to join me in raising a glass to wish long life, health and happiness to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth.”

At that point, Sergeant Brian Best led a small contingent of the Royal Anguilla Police Force in a royal salute to The Governor and three volleys of fire in honour of The Queen.
That done, the guests continued to enjoy the rest of the evening for the remaining time.

Earlier during the day the grounds of Government House were opened to other members of the public, among them being some of the inmates of the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens Home.

It is now some time since the traditional Queen’s Birthday Parade was discontinued at the Ronald Webster Park which followed closed on the heels of the more patronised Anguilla Day Parade.
