At the weekly police briefing held at the Royal Anguilla Police Force Headquarters, Detective Sinclair and Superintendent Proctor appealed to the public to help in capturing two very dangerous violent robbers that are still at large. Mr. Proctor said, “We are concerned about firearms, and we want the people to be on alert about two people who are running around Anguilla with firearms with the intent to rob and they are not afraid to use deadly force. We want people to be vigilant.”

The RAPF is deploying all of its resources to bring these two men to justice. They are described as: one tall and one short and both slimly built. They have robbed establishments in Sandy Ground, Rock Farm, The Quarter and Caul’s Bottom and therefore the police are asking members of those villages to be even more vigilant. Mr. Sinclair of the RAPF said, “These people are not invisible, and they will be mixing with people who have more of a conscious and we hope that those with a conscious will help us. Although gun crime has decreased lately, these two individuals pose a very serious threat. They are not afraid to use their firearms. I appeal to anyone with information in the strictest of confidence to give us the leads we need.”
The police briefing began, however, with the introduction of Cheryl Corbin, a forensic scientist from Barbados with over twenty years experience in the field. She has been helping the RAPF for years and is currently here conducting training until June 14, upon which time she will present a draft document to the RAPF detailing new policies and procedures that need to be in place in order to run a more efficient crime scene investigation unit. She is conducting a heavy review of the RAPF’s scene of crime and evidence and property handling procedures. The purpose of this assignment is to assess the police investigation and forensic capability of the Scene of Crime Unit (SOC) and the Evidence and Property Procedures of the RAPF. She will also propose strategies for improved operations and devise policy statements that would lend to the creation of a Quality and Procedural Manual to ensure effective running of the unit. Mrs. Corbin spoke quite eloquently about her job in Anguilla and it is evident that her expertise is second to none in the entire Caribbean. She was the first ever forensic scientist in Barbados and is frequently called throughout the region to assist in many ways.
In other news, Sergeant Yearwood reviewed the crimes that occurred for the week period of June 4-11. In total, six males were arrested for crimes that include burglary, breach of peace, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and impeding a police investigation. There were 14 crimes in total for the week with various robberies in which many items were stolen such as money, scooters, purses and a boat motor. There is currently an investigation in which a person abroad phoned the police in an attempt to retrieve USD 50,000 that was sent in a transaction that was later cancelled. The business that received the money refuses to give it back and the police are attempting to get to the bottom of it.
