Social Security Director Presents Webster's Portrait To Schools

There is now an official portrait of Anguilla’s Revolutionary Leader, James Ronald Webster, in the island’s schools and the Public Library to ensure that all students can know him.

The photographs were presented by Director of Social Security, Timothy Hodge, accompanied by his Secretary, Mrs. Susan Best-Richardson. The photograph given to Campus A of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School was received on Tuesday by Principal Ingrid Lake.

Mr. Hodge reminded the assembly of Anguilla Day, which was celebrated last week Friday, and of its significance. He told the gathering that he had been to Campus B some days before and was taken aback to discover that some Form 1 students did not know much about Anguilla Day. “May be it is the same here because half of the students in that class were not born in Anguilla,” he reasoned. “That is very strange to somebody like me who was born around the time of the revolution and all the children here were Anguillians. It means that some people in our community, and some of us who were born here, need to know and to remember the things that make us Anguillian, and we ought to be proud of it because we have a very proud history and a proud country and we need to recognise and appreciate that.”

Mr. Hodge went on: “While I was at Campus B, I asked who our Revolutionary Leader was. Everybody knew the name, Ronald Webster, but a lot of them do not know him or what he looks like and I thought that this was not good enough. He is still drives around and very much active.”

Mr. Hodge has now undertaken to distribute the portraits of Mr. Webster to the schools and the Public Library. The portrait was taken when his 80th birthday was celebrated two years ago on the park. “All of you will now know who the “Father of our Nation” and our Revolutionary Leader is. We will respect him and when you see him you should give him a big hail and go over and talk with him. He is very friendly and will talk to you too,” Mr. Hodge added to the applause of the Campus A students.
