It was one in a continuing series of constituency meetings giving the two elected representatives and the villagers an opportunity to discuss matters affecting the communities and ways of addressing them. The meetings, though usually small, also normally look at general matters relating to the island as a whole including the Government’s programmes and policies.
Among the matters discussed at the meeting were land use, development and access at the eastern end of the island. It was noted by the villagers that there was a need for more road improvement work to be carried out in local residential areas throughout the island where, in some instances, this was being overlooked.
The rise in crime, particularly burglaries and thefts, and ways of dealing with the problem, were also discussed at the meeting.
The people’s representatives in the eastern end of the island have taken the lead in holding these constituency meetings. It is hoped that the elected members in the other districts would follow their example.
