Superintendent Rudolph Proctor and Acting Detective Inspector Randolph Yearwood reported to the media representatives during the weekly press briefing on Wednesday.
Yearwood said that during that week the police recorded seven burglaries which occurred in the villages of South Hill, The Valley, West End, Deep Waters and Sandy Ground. One was at a business establishment; three at government buildings – the Agricultural Department where the intruder gained access but apparently got nothing; the Dental Unit where about EC$125 was stolen; and the Port Authority at Sandy Ground where security cameras led to a person’s arrest. There were three other burglaries at private homes. Two of the burglaries were solved and three persons were arrested. There was one attempted burglary committed at a business establishment.
There were four recorded reports of theft. They occurred in Rock Farm, The Farrington, North Hill and Blowing Point and are being investigated.
There was one wounding incident following an altercation at East End which is also under investigation.
One person was arrested and charged for possession of cannabis and was taken before the Magistrate’s Court for bail.
Another person, a French national from Sandy Ground, St. Martin, was arrested and charged for possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply and importation. The accused person was found with the cannabis on arrival at Blowing Point. He was found with seven packages of the drug weighing a total of 806 grams. He was taken to court and remanded to prison.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Proctor, indicating that security equipment had led to the intruder at the Port Authority, took the opportunity to advise businesses and owners of private residences to take appropriate steps to secure their properties to control burglaries.
