The two-day session which began on Thursday August 30, 2007, was conducted under the theme ‘Excellence through Understanding’. The overall aims of the session were to enable teachers to achieve an understanding of the Anguilla Public Service (APS), its operations, policies and procedures and to set the tone for the APS by impacting teachers’ attitudes in a manner that would inspire them to pursue excellence.

It was noted that teachers tend to function in an environment that does not lend itself to an awareness of the day-to-day operations of government. Therefore, the PS Public Administration took the opportunity to remind teachers of the need to familiarize themselves with the General Orders, Public Service Regulations, Control and Employment Act, Education Act and the Financial Administration and Audit Act, all of which are important documents that guide and govern their terms and conditions of employment in the Anguilla Public Service.

Topics covered included Goals and Role of the Anguilla Public Service, Chains of Command, Expectations of Public Officers, Compensation and Benefits of the APS, Mobility within the Service and Training.

It is anticipated that after the two days, teachers would have a better understanding of where they fit in the organization and be more cognizant of how their combined efforts can assist in the achievement of the organization’s goal.
