In an indirect contrast to their recent demonstrations and demands for higher wages from Carillion Construction at the Viceroy Project, some 500 Indian workers crowded the Western Union Office at Lake’s World Supermarket on Wednesday, sending money to their relatives at home.

A large crowd of the Indians stood inside the building waiting to be served and many more took up standing or sitting positions outside as they anxiously waited in the narrow passage-way to get inside.
The Indians travelled to Western Union the day before, Tuesday to do their transactions, but it is understood that this was not technically possible. They returned on Wednesday facilitated by the construction company’s bus and eventually got off their money to India.

Their wages were doubled following negotiations between local lawyers, Anguilla Government officials and company representatives.
“Every thing is fine with us now,” one of the Indians remarked. “We are happy and after we get through here, we are going back on the job.”
