The Anguillian caught up with the attractively dressed team just before departure time and spoke with President Calvin Hughes.
“We have been going to Puerto Rico since 2005 when we took an 11-12 year-old team. We are taking the same age group this year. Last year we took a 9-10-year-old group and a 13-14 age group,” Mr. Hughes said. “We hope we can continue doing this.
“Thanks for all the support we got from the Anguilla Government through the Sports Office and from all the other sponsors and to the parents.
“We will be playing against different islands in the Caribbean area including Puerto Rico, Panama, Venezuela, Bahamas, St. Maarten, Statia and Saba.”
Sports Director, Alkins Rogers commented that the Government and his office were pleased to support the young Anguillians and their companions going to the Puerto Rico Pony Baseball competition.
“Any initiative that would assist the youth to stay focus is a positive step and we are for it,” he added.
