Last Weekend's Football Game Results

Last Saturday, the football Knock-Out competition saw Soccerama Champions Attackers FC vs 2006 League Champions Roaring Lions FC. The game was keenly contested but when the dust settled it was the Roaring Lions who emerged victorious, defeating Attackers 3 goals to 2. With ten minutes left before the end of the first half, Melvin Angal opened the scoring with a textbook shot at the goal that beat Roaring Lions’ custodian.

Following a strategic substitution, the veteran Colin Johnson levelled the score at one goal apiece with a strike in the 56th minute. Then leading goal scorer in the League, Addi John ensured that his name was recorded in the scorer’s book with beautiful strike in the 70th minute from 12 yards out that left the Roaring Lions’ defence stunned. Just two minutes later, following a foul by Attackers in the penalty area on Colin Johnson, the often composed Tyrone Benjamin took the penalty levelling the score at 2 goals. Twelve minutes from the end of regulation, Colin Johnson once again was involved a goal for Roaring Lions FC. Johnson headed a pass to Lester Connor who showed his gratitude by punishing the Attackers’ goalkeeper with a bullet strike. That goal proved to be the deciding goal as Roaring Lions FC pulled off the 3-2 victory. There was no question in anyone’s minds who the player of the game was. In a show of brilliance and experience, Colin Johnson showed why age is just a number.

On Sunday 11th March, the ALHCS FC gave Spartan FC all they could handle as they battled for the last spot in the Knock-Out Final. The young school boys matched the experienced Spartan team stride for stride both on and off the ball. At half time the score was 0-0 despite exceptional play from both teams. Kapil Assent not known for his mid-fielding prowess showed great touch for Spartan at times while Michael Bentley of ALHCS FC, a defender turned goalkeeper, may have come into his own with spectacular saves from a barrage of shots from his opponents. At one point, the Spartan team begun celebrating what appeared to be a sure goal off a punishing strike from Assent, but Bentley made up much ground and denied Spartan the first goal of the game. However, in an advertent error of judgement, an ALHCS defender headed the ball in his own net in the 75th minute thereby giving Spartan the only goal of the match to book its seat in the Knock-Out finals.

The final match of the Knock-Out Championship will see Spartan FC VS Roaring Lions FC on Sunday 17th March 2007. Fans are encouraged to be there and support their favourite team. Buck-Eye has called out the energetic Super Fly String Band to show why Spartan and the Band are number one in the land. Immediately following the match will be the closing ceremony.

But before the thriller in Anguilla on Sunday, the females will begin their football season as the fourth annual Caribbean Commercial Bank Anguilla Female Football League will kick off with a 4V4 competition starting at 3:30 p.m. at the Webster Park Annex. Everyone is invited to come and support the five female clubs that will be vying for female football supremacy.
