The Editor,
The Anguillian
Dear Sir,
WEST END CITIZENS’ LETTER
The West End Concerned Group (W.E.C.G.) would like to express their dissatisfaction with the tone set by members of the Anguilla community who attended the meeting held on Monday 29th January 2007 with the express intention of coming together to aid in a solution to the challenges faced in this district and other areas on the Anguilla. We are heartened, however, by the response of the general public to the issues brought forth during that meeting.

We wish to invite other districts to form similar committees in order for us, the Anguilla community to come together and rally for Anguilla’s cause. We voted our representatives into power and now implore you to show them your strength by aiding them in governing the island. The way to do this is not necessarily to point fingers, but rather to form a strong body and bring about the changes that are necessary to aid in our islands development with an eye on the welfare of our people. One voice, one people – this will grant us the authority to stand firm and demand proper consideration.
On 13th February 2007, the Government held its first town hall meeting during which its members discussed the points that the Concern Group had raised. The Government promised that these issues would be resolved in a timely manner. The W.EC. G. has required documented solutions to these challenges within time periods.
While we thank the Viceroy company for its generous donation, we will not grant it, nor any other company, the right to disrespect our people, our beaches nor our lands. In 2000 the Attorney General signed to the effect that all coastlines should be at least 100 feet from the high water mark. This and other edicts have been ignored by investors. We look forward to Physical Planning and Land and Surveys ensuring that Viceroy and other investors recognising the boundaries along our coastal lines.
We wish to thank the Ministers of Government and other officials who came to District 7 on Monday 19th February for the purpose of addressing our issues. This contingent, along with members of the District 7, visited areas including the Viceroy Project. At Cap Juluca, we met with a management team who assured us that the guard-house which had been posted on the public road to that beach would be removed and returned to the original checkpoint. At Viceroy, things were left in decided, but with a positive tone, and would be revisited on Monday 26th February, at which time this issue is expected to be settled. Government had already contacted Covecastles in regard to the removal of their building from Crown property.
We look forward to the upcoming meeting and trust that we will be able to express our utter satisfaction with the proceedings.
Anderson Fleming
