A release from the Ministry of Social Development states that the new group is being spearheaded by John C. Lake, affectionately known as “Pow”, who has been living a healthy lifestyle with HIV since 2000. An activist against the disease, he has devoted his life to helping fellow PLWHAS and to prevent the further spread of HIV/AIDS.
ACAN will be holding an exhibition in the foyer of the Public Library on World AIDS Day to promote awareness of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. The work of the new group includes the dissemination of educational information via the media aimed at tourism operators, patrons of night clubs, construction workers, sporting organisations and the Spanish community.
The members of ACAN have offered their congratulations to “Pow” for his initiative which can serve to reduce the spread of the deadly disease in Anguilla.
John Lake would like to remind all persons of the importance of practicing safe sex and being responsible in order to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. He can be contacted at 497-8490 for further information.
