Re: Land Matters
Hon. Mr. Osbourne Fleming
CHIEF MINISTER
Chief Minister’s Office
The Valley
Anguilla
Dear Sir,
We appreciate your efforts thus far in addressing the concerns of the West End Concerned Group. This letter is to again stress the importance of addressing these concerns as – given the period over which we have been discussing these issues – we have not seen the end results of our discussions. If we continue to move this slowly, these projects will have moved forward to an extent that we will have a much more difficult task in correcting these issues.

(1) Access to Shoal Bay West – (a) maintenance of the sixteen (16) feet.
(b) removal of the two (2) posts that are on the public beach.
(2) The filling of the beach at The Cove – (a) removal of the stones that are placed on the beach at present.
(b) Assurance that the jetty stays in place as it is. What is government’s official position on the removal or retention of the jetty?
(3) Requisition of more public access to Meads Bay beach.
(4) Long Bay (a) seeking a road across the pond to access the Long Bay beach.
(b) request a road from Nathan’s Cove up to Bedney’s Spring, along the pond.
(5) Viceroy – promise of funds and school buses – revisit
(a) the promise of the US$1,000,000.00 toward the continued development of the West End School.
(b) the promise of the two school buses to provide transportation to and from school for the children - one of these mini buses having been promised to West End Primary School.
(c) To our knowledge, the funds have not yet been collected – is there a timeline by which to collect?
Also, West End Primary School has dire need of land on which to develop a proper recreation ground for the community. Government had previously promised to address this matter but there has been no action taken to resolve this matter.
It is rumoured that Government has plans to give Flag Luxury Project Pelican Cove. We, the people of District 7 West End Concerned Group are bitterly opposed to this action and hereby request that the Government give this matter no more thought and that they get the opinion of the people of West End on this project. Further, we wish to question Government as to why they are sacrificing every inch of West End’s public land. Has Government become so shortsighted as to not consider the preservation of some of our prime land for future generations? Is it that we as a people lack vision? The West End Concerned Group of District 7 ask that Government abstain from the discarding of all the remaining Crown Land in District 7 and instead reserve these areas for community use and for the use of future generations.
We thank you in advance for assisting us in these matters. Your prompt response would be greatly appreciated as we consider these issues to be of the utmost importance.
Respectfully yours,
Mr. Anderson E. Fleming
Chairperson
