The event was held on the company’s office grounds in Stoney Ground on Saturday, September 2. The activities for each age category included a hula hoop competition, basketball, sack race, football, lime and spoon race and flat races.
All participating children received back to school items. Outstanding athletes were presented with special prizes and the male and female valedictorians, Neshack Gumbs, 8, and Nicole Gumbs, 9, received US$75 each. They are both students at the Stoney Ground Primary School.

Company Executive, Janine Edwards, said the event resulted from an active cooperation within the community, reminiscent of traditional communal activities where villagers came together to work on select projects.
The event aims to encourage community spirit and to provide a stimulating, productive activity for the children to win educational prizes just in time for the re-opening of school.

Mrs. Edwards sees the need for a sports development project in the area and spoke of the participation of Sunset Homes of which she and her husband, Ian (Sugar George) are principals. “We are actually in partnership with the Government to do a basketball court; so we are very happy as a private sector body to link up with the Government… and have the children in the area benefit. The Government is working on securing the land and then we will raise funds and so on and construct the court.
“All of this would add to the greater picture and possibly we might be able to have some of these activities on the grand sports field when that is created.”
Meanwhile, Mrs. Edwards has expressed appreciation to all persons who gave generously of their time and effort to the fun day, including Ali, Joan, Alma, Bernard, Unda and members of the Sunset Homes staff.
