The Governor was originally hoping to spend four years in Anguilla but, after serving for two years, he was assigned to the Falklands where he once served.

In a farewell address on Anguilla Day, Tuesday, May 30, during the Official Parade at the Ronald Webster Park, Mr. Huckle said that he and his wife, Helen, had felt welcome on the island.

“We have made many friends,” he stated. “Anguilla is a special place. It has been a pleasure to work with members of Government and the public service and to meet so many people across the island. We shall be sorry to go. But we wish you well.”

On Wednesday, May 31, a farewell reception was held at Government House, attended by many persons in the private and public sectors.

One of Governor Huckle’s last duties before his departure on Friday will be the appointment of Anguillian Stanley Reid as Deputy Governor. Mr. Mark Capes, who will take up the post of Deputy Governor in Bermuda later, will serve as Acting Governor pending the arrival of the new Governor, Andrew Neil George. He will be arriving in Anguilla on July 7 to take up his appointment.
