Giving back to the community is a core value for this telecommunications giant and Digicel prides itself in giving back to the community. The company’s two most enduring social initiatives are the Caring Connections in the OECS and the Digicel Foundation in Jamaica and Trinidad.

Caring Connections prime directive is to affect “Social transformation in a positive way.” Caring Connections services three of the OECS Islands in St Lucia, St Vincent and Grenada. The extensive work that is undertaken by these islands is quite remarkable. To achieve their directive, the local offices have undertaken activities to develop both the physical and social infrastructure of the communities. In St Lucia there have been community activities to increase awareness of AIDS and other STIs. These campaigns were done with the use of local talent in song and dance. Digicel Eastern Caribbean has also built and helped in the refurbishing of community centre and basket ball courts in St Vincent in order to enhance and promote the spirit of community.

The Digicel Foundation, the non-profit organization was established for the sole purpose of building sustainable communities across Jamaica and the Caribbean region. During the 2004/2005 fiscal year, the Digicel Foundation expended a total of two hundred and thirteen million, four hundred and fifty-eight thousand dollars (JA$213,458,000 or just under US$3.5 Million) on projects and donations (including JA$200 Million to Jamaican hurricane relief efforts to create supportive environments which inspire and empower communities.
