Cable & Wireless Donates Computer, Internet Service To Senior Citizens' Home

Cable and Wireless in Anguilla, through its Chief Executive, Sutcliffe Hodge, has made a tangible donation to the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens’ Home. In addition to the annual lunch, the company has donated a computer and a Max unit providing a much-needed internet service to the facility.

In presenting the gift, Mr. Hodge said it was part of the company’s efforts “to reach out to and help those persons in the community who society tends to push aside at times.” He recalled that in the mid 1990s the company took a decision to provide a Christmas luncheon for the senior citizens and he was pleased that since then a number of other corporations had become involved.

“Here we are again in this setting showing our appreciation and love for some of the senior citizens among us,” he stated. “There is a new dimension to our luncheon today and that is that we are also announcing that we are making available an internet service to the citizens at this facility as a means of helping to enrich their lives. We are also here to fellowship with them during this Christmas Season – a season that is associated with giving.”

Nurse-in-charge of the Home, Cynthia Hughes-Richardson, thanked Cable and Wireless, Sutcliffe Hodge and Avon Carty for the luncheon, computer and internet service. She said the equipment would assist the staff members to improve themselves, and their services at the Home, and offered the company special thanks “for a really rewarding gift.”
