Chief Executive, Sutcliffe Hodge, said the company was pleased to introduce another service which would make customers “extremely efficient” in handling their emails and other information technology systems as they move about outside their office environment.

He was referring to a handheld mobile device that guarantees users that stepping out of office no longer means shutting down. The highly-engineered gadget provides quick, easy access to the internet, email contacts, calendar and a host of other tasks virtually wherever a customer goes.

“I think you will find that this device will transform your life and we thought that we should share this with you,” Mr. Hodge told his listeners.

Vice President for Mobile Sales, Mark Romney, aptly described the device as “your office in the palm of your hand.”

Local Account Manager, Toshsharnii Bin-Nassih, gave an extensive video presentation of the new service and the operating technology behind it. “BlackBerry allows mobile customers to wirelessly send and receive emails and interact with information from enterprise data stores and applications,” he explained.

He said that with BlackBerry, mobile users “get direct access to email while on the road and IT departments get centralized administration in a secure environment. It is the only totally integrated package that includes desktop tools, Saber software, affordable airtime and a choice of easy-to-use wireless handhelds so that the user can send and receive emails while on the go.”

Earlier in the day, a press release stated that Cable & Wireless and Research In Motion had introduced the service to customers in Anguilla, offering them the BlackBerry 7290 Wireless Handheld device and the BlackBerry Server v4.0. The price of the device is EC$999 and the cost of the monthly internet service is $150 per month.

“The advanced BlackBerry ‘push’ technology means that messages are automatically delivered to the user without the need to dial-in,” the release pointed out. “By using BlackBerry to access corporate applications, Cable & Wireless customers will be able to increase productivity and efficiency for individuals and workgroups.”

The device, which can also be used as a phone, operates on frequencies that enable domestic and international roaming and also features support for headsets and car kits. In addition, the BlackBerry 7290 features 32 MB flash memory and a 4SRAM, a brighter Led backlight and an updated keyboard with highlighted number keys for easy dialing and typing. The service is now available on more than 95 wireless networks around the world with over three million subscribers.

“The popularity of BlackBerry across the Caribbean continues to grow and we are pleased to work with Cable & Wireless to offer it to mobile professionals in Anguilla,” said Mark Guibert, Vice President, Corporate Marketing at Research In Motion. “BlackBerry continues to be the solution of choice for people looking for a secure, reliable wireless enterprise platform.”
