BET Jazz in conjunction with the Anguilla Tourist Board is increasing efforts toward not only promoting Tranquility Jazz Festival 2005within the local market, but with a view to further deepen the understanding of the power of different forms of music (in particular jazz) and how it can have positive influence on the lives of young people. Ravi Coltrane
|
The workshop geared towards students and professional musicians is scheduled for April 13, 2005 and will be conducted by world renowned Ravi Coltrane - tenor and soprano saxophonist, bandleader, and composer – who has fronted a variety of jazz lineups, recorded three critically-hailed albums as leader, worked as sideman for jazz luminaries, overseen important jazz reissues, and founded an independent record label. Seventeen years since finding his life’s path, it seems music was Ravi’s destiny from the outset.
In highlighting the importance of the workshop Mrs. Daphne Jacobs- Richardson, (Head of The Music Department at the ALHCS ) and who played an integral part in organizing the workshop has extended an invitation to the St. Maarten School of Music to attend. To this end, ten students/professionals studying/engaging in various forms of music will be attending from St. Maarten.
The Anguilla Tourist Board and BET Jazz is viewing this workshop as a community based outreach project as part of the Tranquility Jazz Festival now in its 3rd year. This year the Tranquility Jazz Festival will be held from November 9 –13, 2005 and will feature Ravi Coltrane and other straight ahead jazz critically acclaimed musicians.
