New Road A Tribute To Eric Reid

The renaming of the Cedar Grove Road in the North Side area as “The Eric Reid Drive,” has been described as a small but fitting tribute to the former Elected Representative who was a dedicated Minister of Social Development.

Mr. Reid, who has had over 20 years in public life, has now retired from active politics. The road, which was officially renamed in his honour, a week ago, branches to several parts of the housing development area.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Kenn Banks, who chaired the ceremony, said that the renaming of the road was in recognition of Mr. Reid’s work in the Valley North Constituency and in Government generally. He said the recently-surfaced road, approximately 1.1 miles, was financed by Government at a cost of over EC$700,000.

Chief Minister, Osbourne Fleming, Minister of Finance, Victor Banks and Minister of Infrastructure, Kenneth Harrigan, spoke of Mr. Reid’s persistence in ensuring that the Government developed the road.

It was noted that the road provided access to a number of new homes built by many persons who had taken up residence in the area. Among those thanked for their assistance was businessman Albert Lake for making available land at a reasonable price to residents and also for providing some of the construction material for the work.

Mr. Reid expressed delight with the work done on the road and for the honour accorded him to have it renamed after him. He took much pleasure in unveiling the sign bearing his name.
