| Publishing date: 25.11.2004 12:05 |
The title of Dame has now been bestowed on Anguillian lawyer, Miss Bernice Lake, QC. She was given the honour by the Antigua and Barbuda Government in the national honours as that state observed its 23rd Anniversary of independence on Monday this week.
|
Miss Lake resided and served as a leading lawyer in Antigua for many years before returning to her homeland on retirement. She was among 27 persons named for national awards.
She was honoured for her outstanding contribution to the legal field, her stance of women issues, civil and political rights and her personal integrity.
Miss Lake commented that she was surprised and very humbled by the award. She noted however that while a person does a particular work because of a feeling of being driven to do it, any “public appreciation for work honestly and sincerely done is always appreciated.”
