Regional Medical Technologists Meet In Anguilla |

On Wednesday and Thursday this week Anguilla hosted a Regional Council Meeting of the Caribbean Association of Medical Technologists.

The conference, at the Anguilla Great House, was attended by delegates from various parts of the Caribbean. They were welcomed by Senior Medical Technologist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Everette Duncan. Among those who delivered short addresses were Chief Executive Officer of the Health Authority of Anguilla, Dexter James and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Foster Rogers. They spoke on the importance of cooperation among the various medical laboratories and were appreciative that Anguilla was chosen for the gathering.
President of the Caribbean Association of Medical Technologists, Bonaventia Culmer, outlined the objectives of the meeting as follows:
To bring together laboratory professionals who are representatives of their colleagues within Caribbean countries; organise and devise ways to enhance the exchange of technical knowledge in medical technology; encourage, formulate and assist in the development of new branches of the association; to invest and manage the assets of the body; establish and coordinate efforts to assist the various Ministries of Health and training institutions within the region in the development or improvement of medical technology training programmes and legislation.

The President of the Association stated that the regional medical technologists were advocating for quality laboratory services through developing high level professionals.
“We are concerned about the technological skills and advancements of technologists whether in the countryside of Guyana, the busy city of Kingston, the distant country of Belize or on the island of Anguilla.”
