Five Buildings Demolished As Airport Works Begin |
| Publishing date: 07.05.2004 11:02 |
Five privately-owned buildings were demolished this week as preliminary work on the expansion of Wallblake Airport continued. Two of the buildings were owned by Leslie Brooks and Conrad Bradley in the Long Ground area. They will now be replaced elsewhere by Government.

Two others were Leonard Gumbs’ mechanic garage and car wash at the roadside north of the runway and the other was Poland Arrindell’s former residence immediately east of the airstrip. Demolition work was held up for some days as his daughter Marcia remained in the house.
She eventually vacated the property on Tuesday, allowing it to be demolished after a number of personal belongings were removed. Temporary accommodation nearby has been arranged for her.
The rest of her family had already left the house and taken up residence at a new home built for them by Government some distance to the south.

A number of other replacement homes have been constructed by Government to the north and south of the airport and are now also occupied by those who had to be relocated.
