Music Examinations In Anguilla

More than eighty students of all ages in Anguilla have been entered as candidates for the examination of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in London. Here to conduct the examination over a four-day period is William Bruce who arrived on the island on Wednesday, April 28.

The students have been tutored by music teachers Joycelynne Ashby, Cloricia Nibbs, Eudora Hughes, Kimba Carty, Lennox Vanterpool, Daphne Jacobs-Richardson, Lois Corbin and from St.Maarten Alecia Liverpool and Hester Filbert. It has been arranged for the St. Maarten students to travel to Anguilla for the exam.

Mr. Bruce will be in the Caribbean for two months conducting examinations in some eight islands. He was not certain of the exact number of candidates in each territory, but said the standards ranged from beginners to diploma level. He was however aware that the number in Anguilla was considerably large and said he was impressed with this level of registrations in such a small island.

The Examiner was trained at the Royal College of Music. He plays with the English National Opera Orchestra. He also teaches at the Royal College of Music Junior Department and is also involved in examinations with the Associated Board.

According to Mr. Bruce, the Associated Board is doing about 80 percent of the world’s music exams in 90 countries and has 600 examiners.
