The well known wood sculptures of Courtney Devonish and the bead jewelry of Carrolle were also on display and much appreciated.
Annabella Proudlock is well known throughout the Caribbean for her craft work and has held exhibitions twice before in Anguilla. The main focus of her work at this exhibition is collages made from shells. She loves to beach comb so often uses what she finds in her work. She also showed her boxes that have a variety of Caribbean views on them and photographs that are framed in an attractive and artistic way.
Kathy Carlson lives in St Thomas and has been an artist for the past forty years, firstly during her teaching career but now she devotes full time to her first love of painting. Her fourteen oil paintings on canvas capture the way of life of Caribbean people with her old boats, people, market scenes and string bands. In St Thomas, Carlson is represented by Mango Tango and is the gallery’s featured artist for February for the third consecutive year.
Daryl Thompson is currently studying art at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. He specializes in painting and graphic design and is also studying business management as a minor. His work is very versatile and at the exhibition he is showing charcoal drawings, water colour paintings, drawings using water colour pencils and acrylic paintings. He has already won several awards for his art and his work received much praise and attention during the opening.
Courtney Devonish says, “The Devonish Gallery wants to encourage young artists and we are delighted to showcase Daryl’s art work at the gallery.” The exhibition continues until the end of the month.
