Anguilla: Average Daily Rates of Tourist Accommodations |
| Publishing date: 26.09.2003 09:42 |
January – June 2002/2003
The Statistics Office has calculated Average Daily Rates of Tourist Accommodations using the accommodation tax data provided to the Anguilla Treasury Department. This is the first time Average Daily Rates have been produced in Anguilla and are therefore being released on a preliminary basis. These rates are derived using information on the total revenue receipts from rooms and the number of visitor nights in each month, which are submitted by the hotels.
|
The rates are calculated for each individual accommodation establishment and then combined for publishing purposes by Hotels with less than 20 Rooms, Hotels with 20 – 50 rooms and Hotels with 51+ rooms. Therefore, no data for any individual hotel is published.
Hotels with less than 20 rooms for the period January to June 2003 had a combined average daily room rate of US$326.22 while in 2002 the average daily room rate for hotels of this same size was US$293.38.
For the mid-sized hotels (20 – 50 rooms) some data is still outstanding but the combined average room rate at these establishments was US$88.75 in 2003 and US$103.57 in 2002. Hotels with 51+ rooms together had a combined average room rate of US$519.63 for this reporting period compared to US$364.98 in 2002.
As is expected the first 3 months of 2003 (the peak of the tourist season), all tourist accommodations had high average room rates with February having the highest rates. For this month, hotels with less than 20 rooms had an average daily rate of US$503.71, while establishments with 20 to 50 rooms had an average daily rate of US$140.59 and the much larger hotels had an average daily rate of US$706.52. Hotels usually have higher rates for their rooms during the winter season and lower rates during the summer months. This is reflected in the first and second quarter numbers.
For the first quarter of 2003 small sized hotels (less than 20 rooms) had an average daily rate of US$484.30 compared to US$ 393.13 in 2002, those with 20 to 50 rooms had an average daily rate of US$140.38 in 2003 and US$141.18 for 2002. The larger hotels had an average daily rate of US$641.78 in 2003 and US$322.97 in 2002 (there were more visitor nights for this quarter in 2002 than 2003). For the second quarter of 2003 hotels with less than 20 rooms had an average daily rate of US$165.15 compared to US$193.62 in 2002, those with 20 to 50 rooms had an average daily rate of US$37.13 (data is still outstanding from some of these accommodations) in 2003 and US$65.95 in 2002. The larger hotels with 51 or more rooms had an average daily rate of US$397.48 for 2003 and US$397.48 in 2002.
