The 2008 winner Real Deal along with Miss Anguilla and De Stinger met the bad luck of breaking down before reaching the stake positioned just outside of Cap Juluca. With better luck however, the top contenders, Sonic, NWO, the Eagle and the Satellite were the first four boats to reach the stake and that competition continued all the way back to Sandy Ground.
With the title of “2009 NBA Peter Perkins Memorial Boat Race Champion” and bragging rights on the line, the remaining competing boats fought tack by tack to the finish line. Not giving up on its lead, the first boat to reach the stake, Sonic was victorious, followed by the Eagle in second place, the Satellite in third, N.W.O in fourth and the 2006 winner Light and Peace in fifth place.
The 2009 win for the Sonic marks their second win in the five years of competing in the NBA Peter Perkins Memorial Boat Race. The following represents the winners circle since the inception of this exciting race that the National Bank of Anguilla Ltd, is extremely proud to sponsor.
