Adopt-A-Cause is an exciting community programme, being run under the aegis of the FirstCaribbean Foundation, which was established to oversee the Bank’s sponsorship and community relations programme.
Senior Branch Manager and Head of Country, Marie Rey, says: “The education of our people is a priority for us at FirstCaribbean and we are honoured to have been able to assist our less fortunate children through our Adopt-A-Cause initiative. We do hope that they will use the material obtained wisely and we will continue to follow their progress and look forward to great academic achievements fom them.”
Commissioner of Social Development, Sanford Richardson, expressed much appreciation to the bank for the presentation. He said it was not the first time that FirstCaribbean Bank had reached out to assist needy families on the island. “The task of compiling a list for assistance was not a difficult one as annually, the Department assist many needy families with procuring school supplies.”
“Nonetheless, because the bank focused on primary school students, contact was made with some principals in order to ensure that the resources reached the most needy. Mr Richardson added, “It was now up to the students to make the bank proud by using the books wisely and excelling academically and socially.”
When Adopt-A-Cause was introduced three years ago, it was pointed out that the programme was not simply about sponsorship but FirstCaribbean’s aim to create an environment of volunteerism and teamwork among staff by encouraging employees to give their time, in addition to any cash that the bank was donating, to the various projects.
Throughout the region FirstCaribbean Bank is visibly partnering with groups in projects to assist schools, or other educational institutions, and other worthy community projects literally showing the ‘face’ behind its contributions.
The latest contribution is the third that the local branch has been involved in under the Adopt-A-Cause programme. Bank staff partnered with the Island Harbour Primary School in the painting of classrooms, presentation of dictionaries to the 2006 graduating class of the said school.
