Celebrating The Anguilla Female Football League "Best Season Ever"
|
The AFFL season came to an end on Sunday June 8, with the Super Stars winning the Knockout tournament. It was an extremely exciting game in which the League Champions, The Shining Stars, led the entire game until their opponents scored with only one minute to go.

Two ten minute sudden death periods went with no scores which forced an eventual penalty kick competition in which the Superstars came out on top. It was an exciting end to an electrifying league. The season ending ceremony was held subsequently at the Anguilla Great House on Friday, June 13.

As the season ended with great energy, so did the closing ceremony. More than one hundred people came out to celebrate a momentous term. Mr. Colin Johnson chaired the ceremony with vibrancy and enthusiasm. It was evident how much he enjoyed working with the teams and even more obvious that he looks forward to another exciting season. Mr. Johnson said, “one year ago today we had our first closing ceremony and he we are again to celebrate. Tonight is special for female football and I am happy to have Mr. Harold Taylor from FIFA with us to help present the trophies. Without our faithful sponsors, the Caribbean Commercial Bank, we would not be here today and we are quite grateful for their generous support.”

Also on hand was a representative from the Sports Department, Mr. Rollins Richardson. He was elated about the Female Football League and pronounced that it was now officially a feature event in the Anguillan sports arena. Mr. Taylor of FIFA was then asked to give a few remarks to the crowd in which he commended Mr. Guishard for all his work and decreed that Female Football was in good hands in Anguilla. Cleo Hamm represented CCB as well as his team; the Gazelles. Mr. Hamm went as far as to say that female football is even more popular than the men because they have more crowd support. He also congratulated the winners but predicted that the Gazelles will win next year.
