Members of the Ship’s Company will join His Excellency the Governor, Members of the Government and invited guests in celebrating HM the Queen’s Birthday at an event to be held in the evening of Monday 16 June at Government House.
On Tuesday 17 June the Commanding Officer, Captain Duncan Lamb RFA, will pay courtesy calls on HE the Governor, the Hon. Chief Minister and the Commissioner of Police. A press briefing at RAPF HQ will follow at 10:30 am.
Members of the Ship’s Company will provide training assistance to Government agencies in Anguilla during her stay, and they will also participate in various sporting activities.
During her deployment to the Caribbean last year, part of a 17-month stint away from home, RFA Wave Ruler took part in four major drug seizures that amassed a record haul of over 11 tonnes of cocaine, bound for the streets of the UK, Europe and the US. She also shadowed and monitored seven hurricanes and carried out disaster relief operations in Belize, following damage caused by Hurricane Dean.
The ship is the second and last ship of her class currently in service with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. She was launched at the BAE shipyard in Govan, near Glasgow, in February 2001 and was handed over to the RFA in October 2003, eventually commencing active service in April 2004. The ship has a capacity to carry some 16,900 tonnes of fuel and 915 tonnes of dry stores. The role of the RFA is to provide logistical support to the Royal Navy wherever it is needed.
