Summer Break Is Approaching |
It always seems so far away, but when I start to receive calls about the Anguilla Tennis Academy’s Annual Summer Camp, it becomes clear that the summer break is upon us. Like in the past, this column will begin to highlight certain programmes in which children can participate and it is necessary to begin this process now as many programmes have a limit.
In the past, we have seen programmes such as tennis, The Public Library, Camp Be Aware, Junior Golf, Youth Sailing, Junior’s Marine Life Camp in Shoal Bay, Vacation Bible School, among many others. I am sure that the National Trust and the Environmental Club may be planning something as well as they have been quite active in the community.
One may recall in last week’s edition of The Anguillian, an article introducing the new coach of table tennis, Mrs. Verna Edwards. She is scheduled to be in Anguilla for three months and it is also most likely that there will be a summer programme for children. Table tennis is a fantastic sport that everyone enjoys and the excitement and buzz created around its recent boost (by way of the purchase of many tables by NBA) has many expecting to play. Throughout the next two months I will be meeting with the organizers of summer programmes in order to help readers know their options as well as provide a medium for organizations to get their programmes and missions publicized.
In order for all of these wonderful programmes to take place, the corporate community must be able to step up and provide either in kind or monetary support. It is always difficult to ask for help, but in Anguilla, businesses and the Government tend to be quite generous. Their generosity over the years is to be commended and obviously the successes of the programmes are a direct result of the financial impetus given by small and large businesses alike. I am positive that all the organisers of summer programmes will join me in asking that the financial support this year be better than ever.
If by chance you, reader, are involved in implementing a summer programme, please contact me and I will be happy to meet and highlight it here in this forum. Summer is an exciting time and I am sure both children and adults are looking forward to a much needed break.
