WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SPORTS: Young Anguillian For Japan


Young Anguillian will be travelling to Japan on August 18 for the World Championship Games. He is fresh from his Pan American Junior debut in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he lowered the National Junior Records in the 100m and 200m which were at 11.16 and 22.65. Both records were held by Athlee Ruan. The new records are now 11.02 and 22.31 which are now Rogers’ best.

Rogers caught the attention of coaches at the local Primary School Sports Day meet where he excelled in the sprint and long jump events.

He began travelling to represent Anguilla at the age of ten. He competed in the Leeward Island Youth Championships, Caribbean Union of Teachers’ Games, CAC age groups Championships, the Carifta Games, Caribbean and Central American Games, the Pan American Juniors and World Championships.

He has played in St. Kitts-Nevis, Antigua, Jamaica, Trinidad, Grenada, Turks and Caicos, Martinique, St. Martin/St. Maarten, Brazil ands Morocco. He is training at the High Performance Centre in Jamaica with internationally-acclaimed top Jamaican athletes such as Usain Bolt, Sheron Simpson and Dwight Thomas.

The Anguilla Amateur Athletic Association has offered young Emris Rogers every success in his athletic endeavours as he aims at improving his performance in Osaka, Japan over that in Brazil.
