Lil Soldiers Crowned CCB's Female Football Champions |
Lil Soldiers are the new C.C.B. Female Football League Champions. They dethroned the defending champions Shining Stars by edging them out on goal difference. Shining Stars needed only a draw in their final game against Gazelles to retain their championship, but they went under 1 goal to nil in a very exciting encounter. Both Lil Soldiers and Shining Stars ended on 17 points but Lil Soldiers had a superior goal difference of 12 compared to a goal difference of 7 for Shining Stars. This meant that the final standings read: First place Lil Soldiers (C.C.B. League Champions 2007), second Shining Stars, Gazelles slip one place to third, Youngsters fourth andSuper Stars in fifth position. It was Lil Soldiers first hold on the C.C.B. League trophy.
Meanwhile, the following week saw Lil Soldiers being dethroned as Knockout Champions. They went under to Gazelles by a score of 2 goals to 1 in extra time. Lil Soldiers scored as early as the first minute, via the boot of Melesa Anderson, following a superb solo run and a magnificent left foot strike. Gazelles squandered numerous scoring opportunities but managed the equalizer in the last 10 seconds of regulation time. It was Audra Rogers who latched on to a loose ball to hit home past Davia Hodge in goal to send the Gazelles’ fans into frenzy. It was Audra again who produced the winning gaol as she again scored from close range in the third minute of extra time. It was Gazelles’ first trip to the Knockout finals and their first grip on the C.C.B. Managers Cup. On the way to the finals Gazelles defeated Super Stars on penalty kicks by score line of 5 goals to 4, after the game ended 0 goals to 0 at the end of full time. On the other hand Lil Soldiers knocked off Shining Stars by a score of 1 goal to nil, with Ambhar Romney scoring a penalty in the last minute of regulation time.
The curtains will come down on the 2007 C.C.B. season with a grand closing ceremony later this month. Attention now shifts to the preparation of the National U-20 team who will play St. Kitts, on 17th & 23rd of June on a home and away basis, in an effort to qualify for the next round of the CFU U-20 competition in Cuba.
Congratulations to Lil Soldiers FC and Gazelles FC the League and Knock out Champions for 2007.
