West End Citizens' Letter
|
|
| |
The Editor,
The Anguillian
Dear Sir,
WEST END CITIZENS’ LETTER
The West End Concerned Group (W.E.C.G.) would like to express their dissatisfaction with the tone set by members of the Anguilla community who attended the meeting held on Monday 29th January 2007 with the express intention of coming together to aid in a solution to the challenges faced in this district and other areas on the Anguilla. We are heartened, however, by the response of the general public to the issues brought forth during that meeting.

Mr. Mitchell Lake
Founder & President
Anguilla Tennis Academy
Dear Mr. Lake,
Marley and I appreciate our recent tour, with you, of the Anguilla Tennis Academy (ATA) and while we continue to be impressed with the ongoing progress of the complex, we are even more impressed by the significant personal contribution that both Jason and yourself are making towards the Anguillian community. Your commitment to the project is an admirable example of the difference that individuals can make when they have the determination to fulfill a dream and a goal.

Dear Editor,
Anticipation often turns out to be more enjoyable than the actual event, but that was not the case for the audience at St Augustine’s this past Sunday evening for the inaugural performance of Morlens Music Studio’s recital series showcasing some of the Studio’s exceptional students.

Mr Timothy Hodge
Director of Social Security
Dear Sir,
Re: Customer Service Beyond Expectation
I telephoned your office this morning for the second time within the last month for a certificate to indicate that Joyce Kentish & Associates were up to date with the social security contributions. For the second time Ms Brenda Hughes enquired how soon I required it. I indicated that today would be preferable. On both occasions the certificates were at the Customer Service desk for collection within an hour.

Open Letter To Dr. Ralph Gonsalves
|
|
| |
Dear Prime Minister,
A recent newspaper report out of the Eastern Caribbean suggested there was much enthusiasm surrounding your move to sell controlling interest in LIAT to Allen Stanford and Caribbean Star. I urge you to approach this matter with a lot of caution and to consider the facts carefully before you sign on the dotted line.

Hon. Mr. Osbourne Fleming
CHIEF MINISTER
Chief Minister’s Office
The Valley
Anguilla
Dear Sir,
We appreciate your efforts thus far in addressing the concerns of the West End Concerned Group. This letter is to again stress the importance of addressing these concerns as – given the period over which we have been discussing these issues – we have not seen the end results of our discussions. If we continue to move this slowly, these projects will have moved forward to an extent that we will have a much more difficult task in correcting these issues.

Recycling A Must

Dear Sir,
RECYCLING A MUST
Soroptimist members would like, through the courtesy of your newspaper, to express our disappointment at the discontinuation of the glass re-cycling programme. Recycling is such an important part of the general development of any country that this apparent “backward step” is one that should not go without comment or further investigation as to the possibilities of continuing it. |

Letter to the Editor

The Editor
The Anguillian
I was extremely disappointed when I read the headline of the Anguillian of Friday, August 25th. Everyone in Anguilla is well aware of the importance of Cap Juluca to Anguilla. There is now great concern about the long-term damage such a headline will cause Cap Juluca and Anguilla in the international tourism market. This could well negatively impact occupancies and rates going forward.

[This letter does not reflect the opinions of The Anguillian Newspaper or anyone connected therewith. It is simply an attempt to express my opinion.]
Dear Editor:
My comments are in response to a well-written letter “Don’t Blame the Investors” by Violet Berry that appeared in last week’s issue of your publication. Let me begin by sending her many accolades for creating an awareness by addressing important issues of concern publicly in The Anguillian Newspaper.

Public Access to the Beaches of Anguilla - Don’t Blame the Investors
|
|

The Anguillian,
Dear Editor:
Public Access to the Beaches of Anguilla - Don’t Blame the Investors
The old, old question! What has our governments (past/present) done or is doing about proper access to the beaches for ‘the people‘? ‘The people’ refers to the Anguillian people of today and tomorrow – what legacy will we leave for our children? There seems to be nobody looking out for ‘the people‘. Governments should rise above the politics of today and manage development for both the short and long term.

LOSS OF BEACH ACCESS
A few months ago, several members of government (including 4 Ministers) accompanied residents of the West End on an inspection tour of beach access problems on the West End. Since that time, some improvements have been made to the parking areas/access at Cove Bay, Maundays Bay and Shoal Bay West. |

Open Letter From The U.S. Consular Warden

Two New Wardens For Anguilla
One of Anguilla’s mysteries is the treatment of time. Careful research reveals the basic time unit (the AXA Unit) is thirteen years – say the time from the announcement of a project to its completion. When I first became the US Consular Warden on AXA Unit ago, what was attractive wasn’t the pay (there was and is none), but the opportunity as a Washington lawyer to be helpful to US citizens in their dealings with the mysterious intricacies of the US Government.

Dear Sir:
KEEP ANGUILLA UNIQUE
Just a brief comment on the new number plate styles proposed for the island. Although they are colourful, I think that they look tacky and cheap. They will make road users’ vehicles look awful – like the cheap and tacky number plates in a neighbouring island.
