March 8th, 2011 marked 26 years since the National Bank of Anguilla Ltd opened its doors to the public. The Bank commenced celebrations by joining the congregation of the Church of God of Prophecy in West End in worship on Sunday March 6th, 2011. During the service the Directors, Management and Staff sang a beautiful rendition of “Count Your Blessings” to a well received congregation.

Cheddi Richardson, Anguilla’s self-made sculptor, and one of the leaders in the artform, made three presentations on Tuesday this week on behalf of his promotional business.

It is around this time of the year, and going into the summer, when grass fires are common occurrences in various areas of Anguilla.

Since our last public update a number of regional developments have forced the ECCU Governments to reassess the viability of our proposed response to the BAICO collapse. A two-day workshop on the GIS-based Flood Early Warning System took place this week. It included representatives from the Water Authority, Air and Sea Port Authority, Police, the Planning Department, Telecommunications, Electricity, Tourism, the Health Authority and the Ministry of Infrastructure.

The Anglican Church in the Province of the West Indies, and its eight dioceses, now has a new hymnal – a large version with music and words and a smaller version with words only.
The hymnal was introduced in Anguilla at the three Anglican Churches on Sunday, March 6, by the Rt. Rev. Bishop Errol Brooks.

A reception was held on Wednesday March 2 on the lawn of Carimar Beach Club to celebrate the property’s 25th year of operation. Many of the original owners were present and joined new visitors and staff for the occasion.

On the 100th International Women’s Day, on Tuesday Tuesday 8th March, members of the Soroptimist Club organized a rally to celebrate the occasion. It was attended by representatives from several other organizations including the Teachers’ Union, the National Council of Women, the Methodist Church Women, Family Hope Network, Sisters for Sisters, and Women in Development.

The observance of Early Childhood Month in Anguilla continued on Sunday, March 6, with teachers from the various preschools, as well as parents attending Mass at St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church.

Through the vision of Mrs. Deborah Anderson and the determination of a group of Anguillians, history was made in Anguilla on the 26th day of February 2011.

A special sitting of the Anguilla House of Assembly on Tuesday this week, at which the International Day of Women was to have been observed with the first reading of the Domestic Violence Bill, was postponed, casting aside some of the plans for the observance of the event.

If Anguilla had remained part of the Associated State of St.Kitts-Nevis, created in February 1967, it would have been celebrating that status this week. Instead, the people of the island came together on Wednesday, March 2, to celebrate, with a national holiday, the 85th birthday of Revolutionary Leader, James Ronald Webster.

The Anguilla Community College (ACC) and the University of Technology in Jamaica (UTECH) have discussed and entered into a mutually-beneficial partnership with each other. Representatives of both institutions met in Anguilla, last week, with the Minister of Education, the Hon. Edison Baird, in attendance.

All the Government-run schools in Anguilla came together on Tuesday evening for a grand concert in celebration of the 85th birthday of Revolutionary Leader, Ronald Webster.

Police in Anguilla have reported a bizzare and chilling story that came to their attention. “Police received information that a number of teenagers from the Albena Lake-Hodge Secondary [Comprehensive] School have associated themselves in a group called DOC (Devil Over Christ),” Inspector Emris Rogers wrote in a report to the press late Tuesday evening.
