Charities Benefit From Jimmy Buffet Concert

Four charities in Anguilla have benefited from the proceeds of the Jimmy Buffet concert that was held in March at the Dune Preserve. The cheques totaling US$75,000.00 were handed over on Wednesday August 8 to the Stingray Music Programme, the Anguilla Tennis Academy (ATA), the Anguilla Community Foundation (ACF) and the Bob and Melinda Blanchard charity.

Minister of Social Development, Evans M. Rogers, says there will be changes in the way the Anguilla Health Authority is carrying out its duties.
He made the statement as he addressed the Second Quarterly Review meeting for 2007, held at Paradise Cove Resort on July 27, at which the members of a new Board of Directors, under the chairmanship of former Director of Health Services, Dr. Franklin Lloyd, was announced.

Police in Anguilla are busy investigating two separate shooting incidents on the island which left one young man dead and three others hospitalised; and a senior investigating officer is saying that there is some frustration in the investigations in that members of the public who may have information are not cooperating sufficiently.
The latest of the two incidents occurred on Monday night after ten o’clock when, according to a police report, there was a drive-by shooting when shots were fired at a group of youngsters near a telephone booth in close proximity to Blues & Blues Gas Station at Blowing Point.
