Members of the media were invited to HM Prison on Wednesday March 5 to view some of the art work made by 18 prisoners who participated in a ceramics and pottery class. Adam Azaire was the main teacher and the students benefited greatly from his expertise.

The Anguilla House of Assembly met on Tuesday, February 19, for one of its shortest and non-controversial meetings in recent times.

A consultative meeting was held at the Teachers’ Resource Centre on Tuesday, February 19, to discuss a Master Plan for a state-of-the-art Government Building to cutback on large sums of money over the years on the rented accommodation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Illidge Richardson, and Sergeant Randolph Yearwood, appeared at Wednesday’s press briefing to report on various incidents against law and order which occurred in Anguilla during the period February 13-20.

After several days before the Anguilla High Court, sitting in its criminal jurisdiction, a case of murder ended on Monday afternoon, February 18, with Justice Janice George-Creque handing down a sentence of life-imprisonment for 18-year-old Delano Smith. He was found guilty by the Jury who presented their 8 to 1 verdict to the court.

Anguilla is well underway to handling the training needs of its own people and to give them a sense of pride and achievement while they remain on the island serving in various fields of employment. Their employers, who recognise the benefits of the training to their establishments are, like their workers, being commended for their active participation in the programmes by the Community College Development Unit which is hoping to add other courses to the available list.

In the police weekly report on Wednesday this week, Deputy Commissioner, Illidge Richardson, told the media that the Traffic Department was concerned over the reckless driving on the island’s roads by some motorists. He made the point that a lot of the speeding was being done during the night.

Keithley Lake is the new President of the Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACOCI). He was elected by the Directors who were chosen at the annual general meeting last week. The Honourable Minister of Social Development Evans Mcniel Rogers today commended Darren Gumbs, an Anguillian, for his outstanding accomplishments in Bodybuilding. Mr. Rogers met Mr. Gumbs and his United States Sponsor in the VIP Lounge at the Wallblake Airport on their arrival today.

Inspector Paul Sinclair told local reporters on Wednesday that three persons in the George Hill area were arrested by the Police Task Force, and other police officers, on intelligence reports they received.

With a simple mission to make Anguilla a fitter healthier nation, the Anguilla Amateur Bodybuilding Association (AABA) has repositioned itself as the Anguilla Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation (ABFF). “As well as promoting the sport of bodybuilding, we will strive to make the public aware of the value of fitness and nutrition in our everyday lives” said Haydn Hughes, the newly elected President of ABFF. “We will make every effort to popularize this multi-million dollar sport year after year.”
