Fellow Anguillians, you are aware that from the onset of the introduction of the Interim Stabilisation Levy Bill in the House of Assembly in April 2011, my colleague the Hon. Othlyn Vanterpool, the leadership of the AUF, myself --- and in fact the entire AUF organization, have voiced objection to it. We see it as a BAD TAX that is unfair and inequitable and should be repealed. In light of this, on April 14, 2011, I requested of the Speaker through the Clerk of the HOA to convene an urgent meeting to debate a motion to repeal the ACT.

The Third Annual Runaway Anguilla Fashion Show and Silent Auction fund-raising event, held at Viceroy Anguilla in April under the theme Fashions for the Earth; Passion for the Youth, has been a very successful undertaking. It raised a total of US$14,328.52 which has now been equally divided and presented to the five youth centres on the island.

On June 13th 2011, AXA ITF TaeKwon-Do held Promotion Exams where Avon Carty was successfully promoted as the Club’s newest black belt. Also successfully promoted were Matilda Harrison for her Yellow Stripe, and four Red Belts who are now Black Belt Candidates: Eva McClean, Jamal Gumbs, Alessandro Piazzi and Tobie Bloom. Two First Degree Black Belts, Johnny Piazzi and Marco Piazzi, also passed their first of three stage tests toward their up-coming Second Degree Exam.

Governor Alistair Harrison announced on Friday, June 10, that Detective Inspector Andrew (Andy) Arsenault had been awarded the honour of Member of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2011 Birthday Honours List of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll. The award was in recognition of his services in the fight against corruption and financial crime in Anguilla.

On July 2nd, from 10 am until 3 pm, the Anguilla Youth Sailing Club (AYSC) will be holding a free family fun day, at the sailing school in Sandy Ground, to launch its summer camp program and showcase the many exciting activities that will be offered. There will be a bouncy castle, tubing rides, face painting and free hot dogs. Instructors will also be on hand to help parents and children try out a variety of sailboats or take them out on an introductory cruise around the bay.

GOLF COURSE PROJECT SOLD BY PUBLIC AUCTION

After remaining closed, and the object of speculation by more than 70 investors, for several years, the Golf Course Project, owned by Flag Luxury Properties (Anguilla) LLC, was sold by public auction on Tuesday this week, June 7, for US$15 million. The event took place in the Golf Club House.
