On Saturday morning, July 31st, approximately 2:00 am Singing Niqua was once again crowned the 2010 Junior Calypso Monarch with a total of 269 points. First Runner up with 250 points was the Mighty Viglef singing “De Bigger Picture” and Second Runners up with 242 points the Mighty Jam Out “How would History Judge You?”
The other Junior Calypsonians were Singing Annie, Mighty Pantha, Mr. Danger and Singing Destiny.

Resolution To Remove Eight ANGLEC Directors Fails At Special Meeting Of Shareholders On July 30
|

The Special Meeting of Shareholders of Anglec requisitioned by the Government of Anguilla and the Anguilla Social Security Board, and held on July 30, resulted in the defeat of two resolutions by the Government and the Social Security Board. The first resolution sought to remove eight of the nine sitting Anglec Directors, and the second to replace them with ten individuals handpicked by the Government and the Social Security Board.

There were thirteen crimes reported, by the Royal Anguilla Police Force, for the period July 21st to 28th. Among them were two burglaries in Blowing Point and South Hill. The only item stolen was a handbag with contents and cash.
Eleven thefts were reported in West End, Long Ground, Island Harbour, South Hill, Campus B, Rey Hill, East End, North Side, Blowing Point and the Valley. |

Abraham Harrigan Released, Due To Serious Health Deterioration

"Earlier this week, in connnection with my operational responsibility for the Prison, Superintendent Conrad Gumbs reported to me that one prisoner, Abraham Harrigan, had suffered a serious deterioration in his health. His medical needs, the strain on the prison staff of coping with them, and the implications for the good order of the prison, led the Superintendent to recommend that I should take action to remove Mr Harrigan from the prison.

Soroptimists Summer Reading Programme Ends With Certificate Presentation

For the 16th consecutive year the Soroptimist Club has held a Reading Programme geared towards students leaving primary school to attend the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School Campus B. The programme assists with reading and comprehension skills and involves individual work that is fun and interesting. Twenty two children completed the two and a half week course this year.

180th Anniversary Of Ebenezer: CALL TO METHODISTS TO SEEK NEW VISION

Methodists in Anguilla were urged to avoid complacency and to seek a new vision. The admonition came from Supernumerary Minister, the Rev. Joseph Lloyd. He was at the time delivering the sermon at a Service of Thanksgiving in observance of the Re-dedication of Ebenezer Chapel in The Valley, occasioned by its 180th Anniversary, on Sunday evening, July 25. That was the day and month when the original church building was commissioned in 1830.

At first hearing about this three-member musical band, with guitars and drum set, one may have thought that it was a wholly Anguillian group. The band performs ever so often at hotels, restaurants, the Tranquility Jazz Festival, the Summer Festival and other entertainment functions. Some may have assumed that the group, growing in popularity, was Anguillian because of its name in relation to the island’s British Overseas Territory status and the fact that the band operates here.

School Attandance Fun Fair A Success

The second School Attendance Fun Fair was held at Adrian T. Hazell Primary School on Thursday July 15th 2010. In attendance were students from the public primary schools across the island. These students qualified for the Fair by achieving 90-100 percent school attendance for at least two terms in the 2009 to 2010 School Year.
