Charles Edgar Vanterpool, known to many as “Teacher Eddy” and to close family and friends as “Father”, was born 05 March 1913 on the island of Anguilla, to Charles Benjamin and Ida Isalene Vanterpool. He grew up in the village of Deep Waters, the second of nine children. At ninety-seven years of age he was one of the few people who had seen Easter Day come twice on March 23; it happened in 1913 and again in 2008.

On Saturday September 25th, the Optimist Club of Anguilla hosted its Jazz & Wine fundraiser event to aid in the fight against Type-1 diabetes in Anguilla. Type-1 diabetes, previously known as juvenile diabetes, is usually diagnosed in children and young adults. The evening was centered on fine wine served with a variety of cheeses and crudités, and music by some of Anguilla’s finest jazz musicians all for a worthy cause.

The Anguilla High Court joined its sister jurisdictions of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court on Thursday, September 30, in paying tribute to former Chief Justice and former President of the Court of Appeal, Sir Vincent Floissac, CMG,OBE, QC, LLM. He died on Saturday, September, 25 at the age of 82 in St. Lucia, his homeland.

Minister of Health, Edison Baird, officially opened Vector Awareness Month in a ceremony on Friday October 1. Activities during the month include competitions for all ages of school children - a jingle competition for pre-schoolers, a poster competition for primary school students and an essay for secondary students. There were also five thefts reported in South Hill, West End and Stoney Ground. Items stolen included Blackberry cell phones, cash and goats.
