HERITAGE COLLECTION MUSEUM REOPENS

The renowned Heritage Collection Museum, under the curatorship of Colville Petty, OBE, an authority on Anguilla’s history, will reopen for business on Monday1st November after its annual two-month break. Located in East End, next to the East End Pond Bird Sanctuary, the Museum’s operating hours are: 10.00 am to 5.00 pm – Monday to Saturday.

Steel Orchestra At St. Augustine's Church

St. Augustine’s Anglican Church at East End has added a steel orchestra to its music systems to enhance its worship. This is in addition to the organ and a drum set there.
The silver-painted steel pans were consecrated towards the end of the service on Sunday, October 24, by Bishop Errol Brooks, following which the young players rendered some melodious music directed by Dumpa Martin.

In a prepared statement, Governor Alistair Harrison, told reporters at his press conference on Tuesday, this week, that the Minister for the Overseas Territories, Henry Bellingham, was still waiting for a reply from Anguilla’s Chief Minister, Hubert Hughes, who authorised Social Security to borrow 200 million US dollars.

Police: We are making progress
During the period October 13th to October 20th, three thefts were reported in West End, The Farrington and North Side. The items stolen included a stereo amplifier, a 100 lb gas cylinder and a Blackberry cell phone. There were two robberies reported, one in North Hill and the other in Wallblake.

On Monday October 18th, at the Blue Ridge Hotel in South Hill, the Anguilla Government hosted a training workshop on Human Rights. With Chief Minister, the Hon. Hubert Hughes in attendance, the ceremony was chaired by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Foster Rogers. Mr. Rogers observed, “While we in Anguilla take our human rights for granted because we were born in a free society, there are however people in this world whose human rights are trampled on daily”.

On Monday, October 18, a number of staff members of Caribbean Cable Communications (CCC) staged a protest at the Ministry of Home Affairs and Labour at which they made various complaints relating to matters affecting their employment. Media houses were issued with releases by the workers, the Ministry of Labour and CCC about the industrial dispute.

Separate workshops for doctors and other health personnel, called medical coders, were arranged for this week, as part of an initiative by the Pan American Health Organisation. The sessions were aimed at classifying all diseases in Anguilla using a standardised system known as the “International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision.”

Black Cats - Good Luck Or Bad?

Very few people are neutral where black cats are concerned. Some fear them - a throwback to old superstitions and lore, and others that own black cats adore them plain and simple. Black cats have been found to have lower odds of adoption in many rescue shelters, including Anguilla, compared to other colors, but people who have adopted them find they are excellent companions and also great hunters.
