The Parent Teacher’s Association of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School held an informative session for members on Wednesday, June 16th, 2010 at the Rodney MacArthur Rey Auditorium. The session focused on providing parents with information on the future of the job market in Anguilla, how to pursue avenues for post-secondary education and the options available for financing post-secondary education.

Ms. Mary Clare Haskins, the daughter of Sheila and Sherman Haskins of Corito, is the latest Anguillian to be admitted to the Anguilla Bar. Ms. Haskins was admitted to the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, Anguilla Circuit, as a Barrister-at-Law and Solicitor on 7 June, 2010. The 28 year old lawyer was admitted to the Anguilla Bar by Retired Appeals Court Justice Albert Redhead. Her application for admission was made by Mrs. Cora Richardson-Hodge and supported by Mrs. Tara Ruan.

Dr. Carissa Webster-Lake of Long Road, Anguilla, has graduated from Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Webster-Lake, who is the daughter of Zulma Webster and Albert S Lake, attended the Stoney Ground Primary School and the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School from which she graduated in 2002. That same year she matriculated at the University of the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas and pursued undergraduate studies in Biology in preparation for Medical School. Carissa had always excelled academically and continued this trend while at UVI.

Temple School of Tourism and Hospitality in St. Thomas students are constantly contributing to the standards of equality and inclusion in the multicultural tourism industry.

Monifa Fahie recently graduated cum laude with a BA degree in Biological Science from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA. The University held its Commencement on May 23, 2010. She pursued a double major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in French. She entered the University in August 2006.

KAHLIDA N. LLOYD, daughter of Mr. Lesly Lloyd and Dr, Sezilee Smith Reid of Tortola graduated with high honors - Magna Cum Laude - from North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham, North Carolina, on May 15, 2010.

Ms. Shellya Rogers, daughter of Annette Carty and the late Beldon Rogers, recently achieved a great milestone in her academic career and would like for her family, friends and well wishers in Anguilla to share in her success.

By now we all have grown accustomed to graduation in the month of May throughout the USA, Canada and even here in the region as well. May 2010 is no different.

One Saturday May 15th, 2010 at 7:00 pm, the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) conducted their 46th Annual Commencement Exercise. Two hundred and two students participated in this exercise of which there were seven Anguillian students. Among them was Ashena K. DeSouza who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education. Ashena is the daughter of Ashford and Icilma DeSouza of Rock Farm. Ashena was the recipient of a full music scholarship from the Government of Anguilla in 2006.

Arniva Whitney Richardson has added another educational achievement to her list.
The 22 year old has recently returned to the island after receiving her Masters of Business Administration Degree from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida, on May 8th, 2010.

High achievers at the Morris Vanterpool Primary School were recognized on Friday 7th May. At a special assembly, deserving students were given Honour Roll Certificates and specially engraved pencils and pens.

Parents of students enrolled at the Blowing Point Youth Development Centre are hereby informed that the Centre will be conducting a special Easter Reading Programme commencing on Tuesday April 6th 2010 at the Centre.

Teachers and students at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School gathered at the Rodney McArthur Rey Auditorium for most of the day on Tuesday, for an exciting 2009-2010 Inter-House Math Quiz.

One of the most wide-ranging and instructive reports to have been delivered on secondary education in Anguilla has been attributed to the Principal of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, Mrs. Ingrid Lake.

The arts and crafts produced by students at Campus A of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, and displayed at the Scouts and Guides Ruthwill Auditorium, could easily have been mistaken for imported products or works done by professional persons in Anguilla.

The Learning Centre at Campus A of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School is the recipient of a supply of educational and sports materials.

The donation, from the Anguilla Community Foundation and a friend of the Learning Centre, was presented to the centre by Seymour Hodge, a well known Anguillian voluntary worker.

The Third Annual Primary Schools Award Ceremony at the Rodney MacArthur Rey Auditorium on Thursday, November 19, saw a large number of students receiving presentations for outstanding performance in a number of subject areas as well as sports. The overall sponsor was the Anguilla Electricity Company (ANGLEC).
The awardees, some of whom are now students at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School, were from the six Government Primary Schools and the privately run Central Christian School and the Teacher Gloria Omolulu Institute.

The 2009 Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School’s Science Fair turned out to be a great success with a number of subject matters having been well-thought out and showcased by the participating students assisted by their teachers.

The award-winning event was sponsored overall by National Commercial Data Services (NCDS), a joint project owned by Caribbean Commercial Bank and National Bank of Anguilla which also provides services to other institutions in the region.

“Say No To Plastic,” a project which Soroptimist International Anguilla has been promoting for the past two years, has won its proud members the top Best Practice Award over many other Clubs around the world. It was presented by President Carwen Wynne-Howells at the Federation Conference in Cardiff, Wales, last week.

The Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School held its Twentieth Graduation Ceremony at the Rodney MacArthur Rey Auditorium on October 21, at which there was a capacity crowd comprising officials, parents and members of the public, who showed overwhelming support for the school and its students.
