Apple Theatre Programme Begins With Training In Leadership And Facilitation For Young Adults

Ten young adults between the ages of 18 and 30 have begun a month long training seminar in leadership and facilitation. The seminar is a component of the APPLE Theatre programme, an initiative adopted by the Ministry of Social Development, Department of Youth and Culture, to promote values and sustainable development among young people, through involvement in and exposure to the arts.

WISE Students Complete Three-Week Pottery Course

Students at WISE (Work Initiative for Support in Education) have just completed a three- week course in pottery, both slab and wheel work, that was very much enjoyed by the students. Adam Azaire from St Lucia, who recently ran a course at the prison, was the instructor for the course that was sponsored by the Small Enterprise Development Unit of the Anguilla Development Board and initiated by Wilma Vanterpool. In addition, Azaire waived his tuition fee, making it possible for the three-week course.

Optimist Club Awards Participants Of First Positive Posters Competition

The Optimist Club of Anguilla, in keeping with its motto ‘Friend of Youth’ and ‘Bringing out the best in Children’, organized a Positive Poster Competition to give some of our youth the opportunity to communicate their views on our community. The students were asked to express their opinions artistically on the themes ‘drugs’, ‘friendship’, ‘community’, ‘family’ and ‘violence’. Students from the Pupil Referral Unit (P.R.U.) and the Workshop Initiative for Support in Education (W.I.S.E.) were specifically targeted for this project and the response was overwhelming. There were a total of 30 posters submitted. The competition took place during the second term of school and was judged by artists Optimist Collette Jones, Mr Adam Azaire and Ms Lynn Bernbaum during the Easter Break.

WOMEN'S CRAFT CENTRE RELOCATED AND OPENED New Permanent Location Being Sought

The National Council of Women is now operating its Art Gallery (formerly Arts and Crafts Centre) in the newly-built Brooks & Sons Complex in The Valley, just down from the People’s Market. The relocation is to facilitate Government’s use of the original site to accommodate a new building to house the nearby Education Department.

Knowing that the island had many talented ladies she decided to bring them together and at their first meeting The Anguilla Craft Group was formed. Art Café is Anguilla’s newest gallery and is located in the Coconut Paradise Building at Island Harbour. It is owned by Elizabeth Chronicka-Pavluk and Janus Pavluk. The current exhibition is an exciting one with oil and mixed media paintings by talented Spanish artist Rosa Guasch. The building has undergone considerable renovations and is a spacious gallery with ample space for displays on the walls and interior panels.
