A tourism promotion hard cover book entitled: Anguilla: Tranquility Wrapped in Blue has been launched in Anguilla and at World Travel Market in London. The 160-page beautiful and informative book was published by Hansib Publications and edited by Arif Ali, a noted Gyanese publisher in the United Kingdom, who has produced a dozen similar books for regional and international countries.

The well-renowned Heritage Collection Museum, under the curatorship of Colville Petty, OBE, an authority on Anguilla’s history, has moved to new premises. It is now located in East End, next to the East End Pond Bird Sanctuary. Its opening hours are: 10.00 am to 5.00 pm – Monday to Saturday.

Who’ll Get The US$21m Project?
The race is on for the contract for the construction of the Wallblake Airport project in Anguilla which will cost an overall 21 million US dollars. The works will include lengthening the existing 3,600-foot runway by an additional 2,400 feet and improvements to security areas of the terminal building and lighting facilities.

Julian Harrigan, who has been in the Anguilla Public Service for 34 years of which he served as a Permanent Secretary for 22 years, has gone into full retirement with effect from Monday, September 29. He retired one year and four months before reaching the age of 55 at which public servants normally retire.

Contract For Eco-Tourism Project Signed

A contract which officially launched Anguilla’s first eco-tourism project was signed on Tuesday, September 30, at a ceremony at the Teachers’ Resource Centre. The undertaking is a combination of the Amerindian Big Spring Heritage site at Island Harbour and the East End Pond Conservation project which will feature bird-watching.

High Court Judge Madam Justice Janice George-Creque, of Tortola, was welcomed to the Bench in Anguilla on Monday September 15 at the opening of the Law Year of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court jurisdictions. First to welcome her as one of a number of female Judges to be appointed to Anguilla, was Attorney General Ronald Scipio. He told the Judge that she would find that the quality of work produced in this jurisdiction could be second to none. |

Cap Juluca Resort in Anguilla has been voted top hotel in the Caribbean, Bermuda and The Bahamas by Travel & Leisure magazine’s subscribers in its Eighth Annual World’s Best Awards Survey. The hotels surveyed were judged in the categories of rooms and facilities, location, service, restaurants, food and value. The respondents were asked to rate hotels, islands, spas, cities, cruise lines and tour operators. There were almost 200,000 evaluations on the questionnaire. The results of the poll were published in the August 2003 issue of the magazine.

Awards Ceremony Ends 50th Year of Secondary Education

A well-attended awards ceremony at the Anguilla Great House on August 2, 2003, brought an end to the week-long celebration of Fifty Years of Secondary Education in Anguilla. It was jointly delivered by the Valley Secondary School which came into being in September 1953 and the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School which took over in September 1986.
