The caring staff at the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizen’s Home organised a party for one of the inmates, Hilda Gumbs, who celebrated her 90th birthday on May 10.

It seemed like yesterday - though far back in time - when the medical staff at Cottage Hospital welcomed our new colleague Mr. Claudio Hodge to the fold. Claud, as he is affectionately known, was employed as an Orderly, on 1st October 1990, and carried out his assigned duties mostly unsupervised.

The Anguilla Tourist Board, through its Portfolio Marketing Group in the United States, has just published a new magazine under the re-brand slogan for the island’s tourism industry, Feeling is Believing. One section of the promotional publication is about love and marriage, encouraging couples from abroad to have their weddings and honeymoons in Anguilla.

Turtle Cove, one of Anguilla’s beauty spots, just under the hillside at Malliouhana Hotel & Spa, was the venue for the wedding of Timothy Michael Bailey and Victoria Lilian James (Tim and Tori) of Connecticut on Saturday, May 7.

Percy Romney Sr. of Blowing Point and his beloved wife, Jane (Janie), came together in the presence of God and a church overflowing with witnesses to openly reaffirm their love for one another in a vows-renewal ceremony at the Maranatha Methodist Church on Saturday, April 16th. The occasion highlighted the celebration of their golden anniversary, having been joined together in holy matrimony for 50 untiring years, since April 14th 1955.

Saturday night, April 23, was an unforgettable experience for Dr. Louis Bardfield, members of his family and a large number of invited guests all of whom shared in a most delightful time. The occasion was the grand celebration of his 70th birthday.

“I feel okay and I am putting my hands in God’s hands that He may guide me along the way where I should go,” said Teacher Daisy Richardson, a once stern but loving educator, on her 81st birthday on Friday, March 11.

Christopher and Adriana Ulrica Richardson of North Hill, are the eldest couple alive, and reasonably well, in Anguilla. Christopher celebrated his 99th birthday on Saturday, March 19 with a thanksgiving service at which were Methodist Ministers Reverends Lindsay Richardson and Joseph Lloyd, family members and friends. His wife will be making 100 years on May 28, “God willing,” the family said.

A number of Anguillians are enjoying a long life and, despite a few aches, the majority of them are reasonably in good health.

Claudine Hodge is one of those Anguillians born abroad who are hoping one day to lend their expertise to the continued development of the island.

Executive Director and Producer of Kreative Communications Network, Carlton Pickering, Snr., has been awarded membership in the International Association of Business Leaders with headquarters in North Carolina.

Mr. Atlin Harrigan lived for his family and his community. He was a dedicated servant of the people of Anguilla. He was definitely a shinning symbol and one of the most outstanding figures in Anguilla. He dedicated his life and limb for what he believed was fair and just for his people.

After seven and a half years of service in the Attorney General’s Chambers, Chanelle Petty-Barrett has resigned from the Anguilla Public Service.

A well-known Anguillian, Veronica Anita Gumbs-Richardson, who resides in the United Kingdom, says she was honoured to have received a plaque from Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming in Slough, Berkshire recently.

Carla Smith, a scholar of Anguillian parentage, has graduated with a doctorate degree in Psychology from York University in Ontario, Canada. There she successfully defended her thesis entitled: “Naturalistic Observation of girls and boys playground aggression”.

Archdeacon Valentine Hodge, formerly of Little Dix, Anguilla, was delighted to be back home on a short working visit, a few days ago, accompanied by his Barbados-born wife, Ouida.

Ellis Lorenzo Webster is one of many Anguillians who, having succeeded in elevating himself in a noble profession, is a sterling example for others to emulate. Born and raised at Island Habour and the son of Zelmera and the late Gladstone Webster, he is now a leading surgeon in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Family and friends in the North Hill, Sandy Ground, Stoney Ground and the Farrington communities joined Adriana Richardson in celebrating her 99th birthday on Friday, May 28.

Anguilla Day May 30 was the 95th birthday of James (Jimmy) Romney of South Hill, and what a time it was for him and his family. His grown children and other relatives sat around him enjoying a delicious meal and listening to his stories of long ago. One of his memories is the active period of the Anguilla Revolution, 1967-1969.
