From Friday this week, July 1, to Wednesday, July 7, the Anguilla Netball Association will be represented by an Under 23 team in a competition in St. Kitts.

The Anguilla Amateur Basketball Association officially ended its Regular Season with a closing ceremony on Friday June 17th at the Valley Court. After a competitive season, the Hard Knox took 4th place, X-men 3rd, Hoyas 2nd and Shottaz took home the 2011 Championship.

What was described by Anguilla’s Minister of Social Development, Edison Baird, as “a battle of talent and prowess,” was won by St. Kitts for the second consecutive year. The occasion was the just-ended Leeward Islands Youth Track and Field Championships held at the Ronald Webster Park on Sunday and Saturday, May 21 and 22. In second place was the British Virgin Islands and third was Anguilla.

The 2011 Scotiabank-sponsored Primary Schools Kiddies Cricket Tournament ended at the Ronald Webster Park on Monday, May 16. It was won by the Orealia Kelly School with a 100% record with 5 wins and 10 points.

A successful weekend of sailing ended on Sunday afternoon with the presentation of certificates and prizes to the winning boats in the 9th Anguilla Regatta. About eighty persons attended the prize giving that took place at the headquarters of the Anguilla Sailing Association. There were five categories for the twenty two boats from St Maarten, St Martin, St Barths and Anguilla.

The Senior Male Football League 2010-2011, and the Knockout Championship, came to an exciting finish in Anguilla on Sunday, May 15. The knockout event was played in the presence of a large and cheering crowd in the Football Stadium at the Ronald Webster Park.

The Scotiabank Annual Kiddies Cricket Tournament for the primary schools is now in progress at the Ronald Webster Park, having commenced late last week. The opening ceremony was chaired by Cricket Development Officer, Cardigan Connor.

Netball is well underway to becoming an enjoyable and seasoned sport among children in the Primary Schools, thanks to the annual sponsorship by the Anguilla Electricity Company (ANGLEC).

A fairly large crowd was back at Island Harbour on Sunday, May 1, on the heels of Festival Del Mar, for the 4th Annual memorial cycle and boat races.

As Anguilla hosted various Government Inland Revenue Departments from the Caribbean, in a series of games over the Easter weekend, with participating teams from the various Government Inland Revenue Departments, Minister of Social Services, Edison Baird, said the games had the effect of fostering regional integration.

Verdine Connor is the winner of the 2011 Dungeon Gym Dead Lift Competition held on Tuesday evening at the gym.

The Caribbean Commercial Bank-sponsored Female Football League commenced on Sunday, April 17, at the Ronald Webster Park.

Watson Hodge a Director of CCB, said the Bank continued to hold true to its mission of providing meaningful participation in the social and economic development of the community it served.

Yellow House emerged winner of the 2011 Sports Day events, as the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School joined the Primary Schools in closing for the Easter holidays on Friday, April 8.

Thirteen year-old Khesim Reid was promoted as AXA ITF TaeKwon-Do Club’s newest black belt on March 25. He was tested with Vidal Permuy who is a 2nd degree black belt who did the first of three stage tests required for his next promotional exam.
The tests consisted of many aspects of TaeKwon-Do, including hand and foot techniques, sparring, patterns, self-defense and board breaking, and took about an hour and a half to complete.

The much-revived Anguilla Amateur Netball Association has presented awards to teams and a number of outstanding players who participated in the three-week competition in November 2010. The presentation ceremony was held on Sunday evening, April 3, at the Next Level, a night club and meeting place on the top floor at English Rose Restaurant.

The three-mile stretch of main road from the Tropical Flower down to the Ronald Webster Park was a riot of colour on Friday, April 1, as students and teachers, representing the various inter-housesat the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School participated in the annual road race.

On Friday evening, March 25, the Ronald Webster Park Volleyball Court, the high fliers of NBA were suddenly grounded by the volleyball enigma, Construction, with a score of 25, 12 and 25, 16. Sherwin “Skywalker” Richardson conducted a blocking clinic as he showed why he has been judged the best blocker in the OECS region for the past six years. Sky walker’s hitting abilities were also on display as he made NBA’s number one blocker, Javelle “Special” Brooks, look invisible.

The Anguilla Youth Sailing Club (AYSC) sent three teams, of two sailors each, to compete in the St. Barth Mini Bucket Regatta this past weekend. This is a Regatta for young sailors held concurrently with the world-famous St. Barth Bucket Regatta, which is an invitation-only event that draws some of the world’s finest (largest and most expensive) yachts for a weekend of competitive racing and many social activities. Reg Lake kindly provided transportation for the sailors, their coach, and support staff to the event in his boat Regal.

The Anguilla Golf Association (AGA) hosted teams from St. Martin (Association de Golf – Les Tamarins) and Sint Maarten (Sint Maarten Golf Association - SMGA) in the second annual Three-Country Golf Challenge on the 26th March 2011 at the Temenos Golf Course.
