Anguilla Bodybuilders Compete In St. Martin

On Saturday 26th June 2010 at 8:00 pm, athletes from the Anguilla Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (ABFF) took part in the first J.C'S GYM and Bodybuilding and Fitness Association of Saint-Martin Bodybuilding and Fitness competition 2010 which was held at the Omni Sport Complex in Galisbay, St. Martin. The competition was attended by both male and female athletes from Anguilla, Dutch St. Maarten, French St. Martin and St. Kitts and Nevis.

Chesney Hughes Awarded Three-Year Contract

The Sports Department is happy to announce the progress of another young Anguillian sportsman.
Chesney Hughes, Anguilla’s left-handed batsman, has been awarded a three-year contract with Derbyshire County in England. Hughes, 19, made his first-class debut in the County Championship this season and, in four games, has shown a lot of promise scoring 393 runs at 65.50.

Anguillian cricketer, Chesney Hughes, playing for Derbyshire County Cricket Club in England, is doing very well, according to Cardigan Connor, who has been part of his development.
“He is very positive in the sense that as part of the season, Derbyshire County Cricket Club had a tour to Barbados where he performed pretty well over the period of two weeks,” Connor stated.

As the athletic season reaches midpoint, Anguilla’s Shara Proctor is shifting into high gear with her long jump. At the recently held South Eastern Athletic Conference (SEC) Outdoor Championships which were held at the Tom Black track at the University of Tennessee, Shara jumped a distance of 6.69 meters with a wind speed of 1.4 meters per second.

The Stingers Cycling Club of Anguilla participated in a grand prix de St. Martin 4 stage race that was organised and hosted by V.C.S.M of St Martin from Friday May 14th to Sunday May 16th. The Club entered the event with its three senior cyclists Kris Pradel, Claude (Patterson) Richardson & Danny Laud. Other participating teams consisted of riders from Columbia, Guadeloupe, Marie Galante, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Jamaica, Santo Domingo and St. Martin/St. Maarten.

8th Annual Anguilla Regatta A Success

The 8th Annual Anguilla Regatta, held last weekend in Road Bay, successfully wrapped up another fantastic weekend of racing. Twenty boats, including visiting yachts from Antigua, St Barths, Dutch and French St. Martin, and Anguilla B class local boats, raced for trophies, prizes of Laurent-Perrier champagne and, more importantly, glory. Although there was the threat of rain both Friday and Saturday mornings, by the time the racing started the clouds dispersed making weather and wind conditions near perfect for racing.

The two-week Primary School Netball Competition, sponsored by the Anguilla Electricity Company (ANGLEC), ended at the Ronald Webster Park on May 8, with the Morris Vanterpool School team emerging winner. That school was also adjudged as having the most disciplined team. In second place was Central Christian School and third, Valley Primary School. They all received trophies.

Anguilla Hosts OECS Bridge Championship

Last weekend more than fifty bridge enthusiasts met in Anguilla for the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Annual Bridge Championships. In addition to the OECS countries, there were representatives from Guadeloupe, Martinique, and St Barths for the Open Tournament. St Lucia emerged the winners for the second consecutive year. The event was held at the Malliouhana Conference Room and many of the visitors stayed at the hotel.

Anguilla Prepares For The OECS Volleyball Tournament With Practice Games Against Star N Stripes

Over the weekend Anguilla entertained visiting volleyball teams from St. Martin in a series of practice games. On Friday evening the female Stars n’ Stripes played a very tense game against the Anguilla female practice squad. Stars n’ Stripes pushed the Anguilla squad to the limit, thanks to smart playing by Susan Webster and her teammates. However, Ludianne Leverette and Khalidah Banks led the Anguilla squad's fight back with some vicious hits and good passing. This was the recipe that allowed them to gain a victory over Stars n’ Stripes. The scores were 19, 25; 25, 20; 20, 25; 25, 22; 15, 10.

The newly-formed AXA United Cycling Club, which embodies riders from Blowing Point and other parts of the island, has high hopes in developing itself into one of the most competitive emerging team of cyclists in Anguilla. This is according to its president, Sylvester Parris, who led his 16 members to the Jamida Bicycle Race at Island Harbour on Sunday, April 25.

Shara Captures Long Term Title

Shara Proctor, Anguilla's top international athlete, has produced the ninth best women's long jump in the history of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, USA.

Representing the University of Florida where she is the senior long jumper Proctor captured the title with a leap of 6.46 metres (21 ft 2.50 inches) and successful defended her title from the 2009 campaign.

Sunday 25th April 2010 saw the conclusion of the 2009-2010 Caribbean Cable Communications (CCC) sponsored Anguilla Football Association (AFA) Senior Male League in an exciting encounter between Roaring Lions FC & Attackers FC. Roaring Lions FC trounced Attackers FC in the final match of the Knock-Out competition to capture the Knock-Out Cup.
