On Tuesday November 15, 2011 the 23rd Annual NBA Primary School Football Tournament came to an end at the Coronation Ball Park where history was made. The closing ceremony was chaired by Mrs. Deslyn Smith of the Market Research & Business Development Support Officer at NBA. The invocation was led by Ms. Waynika Romney (Customer Care Officer – NBA) and the Congratulatory Remarks were heard from Ms. Marisa Gumbs, NBA’s West End Branch Manager. Further remarks were also delivered from the Deputy Director of Sports, Mr. Rawlins Richardson.

A one-week training session for Anguillan athletes was conducted by an elite Canadian track and field coach, Ms. Carla Nickels. She covered areas such as sprinting, weight lifting, hurdling and javelin throwing. The athletes were all enamored with the variety of activities that were shown to them as they quickly learnt new warm up routines and further refined the various disciplines.

The annual National Volleyball Championships got off to a flying start following a brief opening ceremony and words of encouragement from the Deputy Director of Sports, Mr. Rollins Richardson. Four female teams battled for the crown of Female Knock Out Champions. In the end, Spikas, led by Khalidah Banks, Vivian Fleming and company, routed their arch nemesis After Shock with a score of 25, 13 to clinch the crown. Earlier, Spikas easily disposed of new comers Shooting Stars with a score of 25,6. Likewise After Shock made easy work of the explosive Dynamite with a score of 25,11.

Commonwealth Youth Games athletes and coaches return home

Seven Anguillian athletes and officials returned to the island after a brief stint in the Isle of Man where they participated in the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games. All the athletes made credible performances. Most notable were the efforts of Jonicia Richardson and Zharnel Hughes. Jonicia advanced to the semifinals of the girls 400m dash but was eliminated after placing fourth with a time of 65.28 seconds.

Island Hoops Anguilla Basketball Academy 1st Drillz & Skillz Summer Camp a SUCCESS!

The first week of intensive skills development training at the Adrian T Hazell Primary School was a success. With close to 70 students participating, organizers were extremely happy with turn out and event as a whole. Make up sessions for days missed due to Tropical Storm Irene are underway every Saturday at Adrian T Hazell Primary school. Practice for juniors is from 8 am to 12 noon and for seniors, from 1 pm to 5 pm.
