Public Health Nurses in Anguilla began a week of vaccination activities with a church service at the Wesleyan Holiness Church on the Stoney Ground Road on Sunday, April 20. They were welcomed by Pastor Juliet Simon and other leaders including Pastor Alwyn Lake who was visiting from St. Maarten and who took the opportunity to commend them for their work.

A course in Food, Hygiene and Safety Management for small restaurateurs is currently taking place at Paradise Cove Resort organized by the Anguilla Development Board. The two-week workshop that is being facilitated by Kenneth Harvey and Alorna Wilson started on Monday afternoon with a short opening ceremony. There are 42 participants.

Dental Health Awareness Week has just gone, but the message delivered by Chairman of the Health Authority of Anguilla, Dr. Franklin Lloyd, Senior Dental Surgeon/Prosthodontist, Dr. Lindel Brooks, and Director of Medical Services, Dr. Kennedy Simmonds, lingers on. They all stressed the need for persons to care their teeth and warned about the serious effects which diseases of the teeth and gums could cause.

An Anguillian professional has returned home to offer a special service to the public by skilfully using her hands to relieve pain and tension and, if necessary, advise on nutrition and exercise to promote general healthcare without medical drugs as far as possible.

The Ministry of Health has been informed by the Head of Health Care Sector Affairs in Dutch St. Maarten that there is currently an active case of Tuberculosis (TB) in Dutch St. Maarten. This case was diagnosed in a woman who works in the Border Bar in Dutch St Maarten which is frequented by many Anguillians.

Dengue is a serious viral disease transmitted by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. It occurs in two forms, Dengue Fever and Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever. The disease tends to spread rapidly, affecting many people during outbreaks, resulting in reduce work productivity but most importantly it can cause loss of life.

Chief Executive Officer of the Health Authority of Anguilla, Mr. Dexter James, has advised that the Health Authority has been granted an accreditation award by the Board of Directors of the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA). The notification of this international award was received on February 6th, 2007 and was based on an assessment of the quality and standard of care of health system in Anguilla based on internationally accepted guidelines.

At the beginning of every year many individuals make many resolutions; and plan to improve their health are top on their list. All individuals are being encouraged to focus on their ones and adopt healthy lifestyles to ensure that they achieve optimal health.

A new organisation called Anguilla Community Action Network (ACAN) has been formed to support persons in Anguilla living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHAS) and will be launched on World AIDS Day, Friday, December 1.

The Anguilla Diabetes Association appears to be making a good impact on the lives of a number of people who are becoming more aware of the growing problems of diabetes among the citizenry.

Anguilla joined many countries in spreading the message of health to as many people as possible in observance of World Health Day on April 7.

From now on, there will be many more people on the roads in Anguilla walking, running or cycling as they join in the Nation’s Fitness Quest, an exercise programme launched at the Ronald Webster Park Annex on April 1.
